  FIVE SOURCES FOR FUNDING HEARIT

  • Individual Education Program (IEP) Considerations: Hearit, if appropriate, can be recommended on a student's IEP under the section of supplemental aid or materials. Hearit Auditory Tools can be utilized within the classroom, resource room or school environment if designated on the child's IEP. Hearit can also be utilized during the district's criterion reference testing or during state mandated standardized testing when so noted under testing modifications.

    Sample IEP Goals For Hearit:

    • Student will utilize Hearit at volume level 4 during phonologic awareness tasks until student is at least 90% accurate on designated tasks as measured by the clinician.
    • Student will utilize Hearit at volume level 4 during auditory bombardment of student's target speech sounds until student can identify correct sound production 90% of the time.
    • Student will utilize Hearit during oral reading, at student's level, with 80% comprehension as measured on factual & inferential test questions.
    • Student will utilize Hearit at volume level 4 to monitor student's own speech production of target sounds in isolation, and in initial/final position of words becoming 90% accurate on targeted sounds.
    • Student will utilize Hearit at volume level 4 during spelling practice of specified phonic patterns to achieve at least 80% accuracy on spelling tests given by the classroom teacher.
    • Initially student will wear Hearit during oral spelling test 100% of the time, gradually reducing the training time with the device, so that by the end of the semester, the student can achieve 70% accuracy on spelling tests without the Hearit.
    • Student will tolerate wearing Hearit directional microphone/headphones for 30 minutes with minimum manipulation of the equipment (i.e. microphone, headphones & cord).
    • Student will utilize Hearit during classroom discussions/lectures 90% of the time with minimal prompting by teacher (s), aids or peers to wear the device.

  • Medicaid Funding: This is a good source for funding Hearit if parents lack financial capability. If there is a prior record of Medicaid funding for the child this simplifies the funding procedure. Upon request, the Hearit Company will send the clinician a Prior Authorization Package. Like funding under a child's IEP, the clinician performs an evaluation following a 30 day trial with the Hearit, and the child's physician signs for Medical Necessity. The signed Medicaid forms are then returned to Hearit Company for submission to the designated State Medicaid Program. With adequate documentation the turn-around for funding approval should take one to two weeks.

  • Durable Medical Equipment Insurance (DME) Clauses: Most insurance carriers have been supportive of providing reimbursement for Hearit Auditory Tools, which are classified as DME. First, print out the DME Hearit Forms from the Hearit Web Site (www.hearitllc.com). Then assess the student's delay, disorder or disability and sign a short evaluation of the student's difficulty, stating that Hearit has, during a 30 day trial, been beneficial for the child. Second, take the forms to the child's physician who will sign for "Medical Necessity". Finally, the parents should send the signed forms to their insurance company requesting reimbursement for the needed Hearit DME Equipment. Prior to reimbursement, it is recommended that the parents secure the 30 day trial instrument with their credit card. Once the instrument is secured, Hearit Company will ship them an instrument via UPS.
  • Technology Grants & Philanthropic Donations: State & Federal sponsored technology grants has become a good source for funding Hearit Auditory Tools. Print out the Hearit Workshop Abstract which details the premise, objectives, training methodology and research for Hearit Auditory Tools. This information has been successfully used as the basis for grant funding for Hearit Auditory Tools.

When grant funding is not available, benevolent organizations have been supportive of Hearit. We recommend that the advocate clinician or instructor make a brief presentation on Hearit Auditory Tools to explain how Hearit auditory tools can benefit many of their learning disabled children. Call our toll free number, 800-298-7184) if a demonstration would help in this funding effort.
