General
Topics Covered in Hearit Workshops
|
|
| |
Each hands on workshop will
demonstrate the efficacy of use of four Hearit auditory tools for progressive
training with those with phonological and central processing disorders
and language/learning disabilities. These auditory tools include the
user friendly Hearit Original, the new, more powerful Hearit Perfect,
and the newly modified Hearit Broadcaster with cordless headset microphone. |
|
| |
The goals of
such intervention are for the student to progress from the individual
to the small group and then finally the classroom setting through the
use of Hearit auditory tools. The end result is to increase attention
span and comprehension, reduce distractibility, increase phonological
awareness and discrimination for those in remedial, special education,
reading, and bilingual programs. Supportive ASHA research and clinician
case studies for child learning disabilities and adult communications
disorders will be used to document the clinical uses for Hearit. |

Detailed
Workshop Content
|
|
| |
TOPIC: Clinician Amplification
as a remedial technique for children with normal peripheral hearing
or slight undetected hearing loss. |
|
| |
This type of rehabilitation
has proven successful with learning disabled children in the educational
setting as a remedial technique for those with phonologic and central
auditory processing disorders, and language/learning disabilities. |
|
| |
OBJECTIVES |
|
| |
The goals of such intervention
include increasing sustained attention and comprehension, reducing distractibility
and increasing phonologic awareness and discrimination. This application
is based on the premise that the development of these skills will affect
children's speech sound production, language processing/speech discrimination
skills, and academic achievement. |
|
| |
METHODOLOGY |
|
| |
The workshop will include
"hands-on" demonstration of (5) Clinical Auditory Tools that
raise frequencies, between 2500 Hz and 6000 Hz, in the voice/speech
range, making speech sounds more intelligible for the child. The most
effective Training Methodology for Hearit Auditory Tools is a Three
Step Progression for the child which starts with individual therapy,
moves to small group training and then on to a classroom orientation.
The classic technique of reading text aloud with the aid of clinical
amplification with Hearit Original, Hearit Perfect or Hearit SE will
be demonstrated and how this learning technique can dramatically improve
sustained attention and comprehension skills. The Hearit SP-ED/BIL Package,
used with 1-4 students, and the new compatible Classroom Broadcaster
with cordless headset microphone for classroom use will also be previewed. |

FUNDING SOURCES &
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT/REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL CENTER (ISD/REC) REFERENCES |
|
| |
The successful use of Title
I and Title VII Programs, Texas Rehab Commission (TRC), Medicaid and
Private DME Insurance Clauses to purchase phonological awareness auditory
tools will be detailed. For Technology Grants, this abstract can be
used to justify the purchase of Hearit Auditory Tools. Several ISDs
and RECs will be mentioned that have successfully used our Hearit Complete
Auditory Tool Kit as a lending library for their children and instructors. |
|
| |
QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD |
|
| |
The last 15 minutes of the
Workshop will be devoted to answering any questions pertaining to the
use of our Hearit Auditory Tools for SP-ED, Bilingual and Reading Programs. |
|
| |
30-DAY TRIAL OFFER |
|
| |
For clinicians, remedial
instructors and parents, we offer a 30-day trial of our Hearit Auditory
Tools. This provides the opportunity for the directors of SP-ED, Reading
and Bilingual Programs to observe the "hands-on" child/instructor
benefits. Following positive learning outcomes, Directors can arrange
to purchase Hearit Auditory Tools for each campus. |
